SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity recently recognised Sarah Duviau, Community Connection Champion (CCC) for RAF Brize Norton, with a Gildea Award for her outstanding commitment to alleviating loneliness and isolation within the Armed Forces community.
The Sir James Gildea Awards – named after the founder of SSAFA - were created to recognise volunteers for their exceptional contribution and commitment to SSAFA’s activities and values.
Sarah was nominated for the award due to the outstanding effort she has put into making RAF Brize Norton a fun, inclusive and happy place to live and work. At 33, Sarah is the youngest recipient of a SSAFA Gildea Award.
Sarah said: “I’m very grateful to those who nominated me for the award and was truly surprised I was picked as a winner. The work I do both as an employee and volunteer is because I am passionate about the Armed Forces community and helping those in need.
2I have volunteered for various charities since I was 19. Not only does it offer great opportunities and experience, but it helps to give back to the community. It is something I would highly recommend everyone to do.”
