Amey’s Big Brew Ups total £22,500 for SSAFA

One of the most popular and well-established fundraising initiatives of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is the Big Brew Up (BBU).
Scores of them take place annually across military bases and other locations in the UK and overseas, with tea adding to the fundraising tally and coffee adding to the charity’s coffers, while cakes and other bakes make up the balance.
A recent BBU was hosted by SSAFA Corporate partner Amey, at the Ministry of Defence Main Building at Whitehall. Almost £670 was raised on the day by both sales of goodies and beverages and from donation tubs, which brings the total raised at Amey’s BBUs to £22,522 over the past seven years.
Craig McGilvray, Managing Director of Amey’s Secure Infrastructure business said: “We were delighted to have joined forces with SSAFA to host the first face-to-face Big Brew Up since the pandemic and proud of our on-site team who went above and beyond to organise the necessary security arrangements needed for such an event.
“Over the last seven years, our employees and supply chain partners have raised over £330,000 for SSAFA by taking part in various fundraising initiatives. The money raised directly supports SSAFA’s mentoring programme that offers transitional mentoring to wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and their families.”
Jessica Sanders, SSAFA’s Corporate Partnerships Officer, added: “Amey has raised an amazing amount for SSAFA over the years, and so it’s a big ‘thank you’ to all who have brewed, baked, kneaded, stirred, creamed, whipped, iced, marbled, and decorated – as well as bought these marvellous creations – over the years.
“Their hard work and generosity go so far to making sure that SSAFA can carry on its work for serving personnel and veterans, whether Regulars or Reserves, and their families just as it has done since 1885.”
